|
|
I have a '76 XS650 that I'm planning on "modifying" as my first build. I ran across this site advertising the wide tire kit allowing for a 200mm tire- sounds great, I would be happy to run a 180mm, and, I am happy to hear that I don't have to run a jackshaft. I plan on making (or purchasing?) a new wider/longer swingarm. : Does anyone have more pictures of a kit installed? The website wide tire kit pics show up very small on my screen for some reason.
BWChoppers- Thanks for the forum and website,

Thanks,
Well, I see now that if I click and drag the picture out of the little "thumbnail" window, it appears in a larger window- I guess I'm a little slow on the CPU skills. Maybe it's my settings on my computer...
Question: I understand that the XS 650 special II's came with a laced 16" rear wheel instead of the standard 18" narrow. I might just go with a Special II rear, but if I wanted to go with a 180mm-200mm rear, where do I find such items? Do the sprockets work on aftermarket 200mm wheels?
I apologize for the basic questions, but I'm just a beginner and willing to learn from others rather than "re-invent the wheel" (no pun intended). _________________ Vigilante

Hey, if your looking at going a tad wider, You can get yourself a aftermarket H.D. spoked rim (wheel)
Sprocket Specielties
http://www.sprocketspecialists.com/
Can make you the rear sprocket, you need to do this why? well because a Harley rear wheel sprocket is waaaay larger than the little xs650 rear sprocket, but these guys can make the xs sprocket with the H.D. mouting holes.
Hope this helps |

That does help- I appreciate the info. If I go with a HD rear wheel, I should probably go to a HD axle as well, or is it possible to get wheel bearings to accomodate the Yamaha rear axle (providing it is strong enough)?
Also, I read somewhere that the swingarm pivot shaft on certain years of the XS650's tend to shear off where the threads begin, so I may upgrade both shafts for peace of mind if nothing else. Has anyone else heard this? _________________ Vigilante

I made 1/2" offset sprocet, and it fit´s under to normal side cover.
must to grind litle the cover but that is not a big job.
The original clutch system fits also.
I use 170/80-15" whitewall rear(me880) tire and heavy duty 530 chain, there is room for a o-ring chain too.[/img] |

hub is original xs´s but the rim is morad 4.25x15".
rear sprocket have a off set plate made from old sprocket (teeth cut down) and metalplate, but gonna make it laser cut metalplate to fit better, also looks good.
longer screws needed.
I wide the frame also, to be sure that I have enough space for the chain. it wide up to (15+15) 30millimeter
look the pics on other topic link.
front offset sprocket made two old ones. cut other teeth down and another I grind both sides the hardened face off. not beautiful.
macihened metalplate 4mm thick drilled id 50mm od less than 60mm dont remember exactly.
and tig welded out side. then put back in the millingmachine(?) and drill the inner part off.
I Hope understand this mumbo jambo |
